Protein cake low carb
The protein cake low carb diet was the methodology behind the Atkins diet. Most of the weight lost is in fact due to water loss since the body is deprived of carbs and is forced to take energy from the glycogen stores. As there are 4 units of water for every unit of glycogen, rapid weight loss due to water loss is prevalent in the beginning of the diet. As soon as carb intake returns to normal, much of this weight is regained. Furthermore, high protein cake low carb consumption encourages fatty foods high in saturated fats, leading to heart disease and an unhealthy lifestyle.
A disadvantage of a high protein cake low carb diet is that it may cause problems with mood swings, resulting in cravings for high-carbohydrate foods and snacks. On the other hand, a high carb diet actually increases the level of serotonin which is responsible for improving mood and appetite. As a result, those on a well balanced diet stood a better chance of loosing weight. Furthermore, those on high protein cake low carb diets omit important whole grain foods and contradict many recommendations and nutritional guidelines provided by national institutions. This can lead to a very unhealthy lifestyle. Additionally, a high protein cake low carb diet can lead to large amounts of urea being produced thereby putting a lot of pressure on the kidneys. A loss of calcium can also result, leading to osteoporosis. Finally, carbohydrates can be readily converted to energy, and having not enough can lead to fatigue and lack of energy.
For reasons described above, high protein cake low carb diets such as the Atkins diet have become a thing of the past, with this fad quickly fading. Many carbs, such by eating whole grains are quite important as it provides the body with many essential nutrients.
